26.01.2007Domain name '.eu' open for
business
BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP)
-- The European Union planted
its flag in cyberspace
Wednesday when the ".eu"
Internet domain name opened
for
business.
Until now, Europeans had to
choose between a national
domain such as ".fr" for
France or a global one like
".com," which is often seen
as American.
EU
Information Society
Commissioner Viviane Reding
said she expected several
hundred thousand sign-ups for
".eu" in the first few days.
National registries in some
countries -- such as Belgium,
home to the EU headquarters in
Brussels -- are offering
promotions to persuade
Internet users to stay
local.
But do
Europeans want a ".eu"
domain name? Some business
groups are uncertain how
popular it will be. Europeans
have an EU flag, an EU
passport and an EU anthem but
many have a lukewarm attitude
to European integration -- as
French and Dutch "no" votes

In a previously article on Neowin we reported on the data that was stolen from the Pentagon. Now, new details have surfaced about what information was
taken. For the most part there is very little to worry about. A spokesperson for Lockeed Martin explains that "They'll have very little
information other than how you maintain the aircraft". Its comforting to know that the most sensitive of data is kept far away from the reaches of
the internet and that only things such as manuals and other non sensitive data are kept on network accessible computers. Cyber threats are growing
and are consistently become one of the highest threats to any nation's national security.

22.04.2009Phone cams forced to "audibly" click when taking pics soon?
According to the Library of Congress, eight-term US Republican Congressman Peter "Pete" King has introduced bill H.R.414 which would make it
manditory that all camera phones make a "click" sound when they take a picture. The bill has been referred to the House Committee on Energy and
Commerce and at some point may become the law of the land. The reasoning behind the submission is to stop people taking "secret" shots (in public
toilets and changing rooms, for instance). The so-called "Camera Phone Predator alert Act" would also make it illegal and "impossible" for
any such phone to be hacked to avoid making this sound.
